Apple Product Predictions
Last year I successfully predicted parts of Apple’s iTV product. I’m hoping to do the same again now.
There has been a bit of buzz in the rumour community of an ultra portable laptop coming from Apple. When we look at the new range of laptops we have 13″, 15″ and 17″ incarnations of a fairly similar computer. The smaller computer lacks certain features that Apple call “pro” and this is the area that most rumours cover.
Word in the communities is that an ultra portable laptop will have a flash hard drive, a 12″ screen and will be thin. I’m predicting a slightly different take on these rumoured features - a touch based mac.
This might sound like some wishful thinking, but when you put Apple’s existing technologies together this is an easy device to build. The first step is Mac OS X’s versatility that we are seeing in the iTV and iPhone. The rest comes together with Apple’s buying power of flash memory from the iPod, the existing multitouch technology in the recently announced iPhone and the completed transition to a new processor designed for low power use.
The tablet will come in a slate only form, use flash based storage and could possibly be based on a slightly older Pentium M processor like the iTV.
This product is on the unlikely side of being a released product, but with Apple’s existing technologies and patents it is an achievable one. Here’s hoping!
