A very simple utility, DockStar extends the built-in visual notification features of Apple’s Mail.

DockStar allows you to set up to five “badges” that appear on the Mail application icon in the dock. Badges can be assigned to different mail boxes and works well when used with multiple accounts and even better when you use Mail’s rules to send new mail to certain folders.

 

The icons are pleasant and you can change them from the spiked circle that mail shows by default. DockStar includes a screen saver that alerts you how many messages are unread and also a dashboard widget displaying the same information.

DockStar is shareware and a demo can be downloaded from the developers website.
